Sewing is my new obsession!

Right before I moved out of my apartment I got back into sewing. My aunt gave me a brother xl2600 which is alot better than my rinky dink kenmore machine. It has like 20 something stitches...The madness!! I upcycled this onesie/romper for one of my first projects. Wasn't too great. LOL Now if I can only find someone to wear it! I mean it wasn't like my fat ass was going to fit into a size medium shirt again anyway.

Not the best picture taker either. FML! So then we found out that BOTH of Mike's brothers have babies on the way. Lilynn and Owen. 2 weeks apart. 1 baby shower down, where I was asked when I was next, since I was the only girlfriend out of the brothers not preggo. I made Lily this diaper cake. The invitations were hello kitty, so I went off of that. I don't really know Cody's girlfriend well so I wasn't sure how she would receive the cake but thank God she loved it!

I also did some heat transfers to some onesies I had and never used. I did hello skully and a hello kitty storm trooper. I didn't get a pic of the 2nd one...

I now have to do a cake for Chris and Mandi's baby boy Owen. I'm keeping my design a secret. She is having 3 + baby showers so I wasn't really sure what to get her. My friend wanted to make a shopping cart cover and I was helping her pick out fabric and find a pattern. I thought, hey I'll make one for Mandi! So I grabbed the mccalls patter at Hancock fabrics memorial day sale. Mandi likes owls so I found some really cute boyish owl fabric. I've made ALOT with it and plan to do some more with the scraps. I've been a sewing fool for the past week! I've been killing the internet looking for badass free patterns and I've found alot that I would like to try. I will try to link some on here but this is a really good site that will search several other sites. http://craftgossip.com/ Here are the projects for Owen that I've made, these are a surprise so...

First we have the swaddler. Which was a BITCH! Here's where I got the pattern...http://cdn.makezine.com/make/craft/2010/04/lotta_snuggler_pattern.pdf

Ok so the worst part of the pattern for me was that we live in TX and this baby is due in July. SO there was no way in HELL that I was going to use a fleece lining. I found some discount $1 stretch cotton that was super soft. Well, when I had to sew the lining it, the corners rolled over a tad, but no biggie. I did stitch a ontop of the main fabric but only because I wanted to try out these fancy stitches. SO SUE ME! Now the worst of the worst was sewing on the velcro! UGH never again!

I used some of the left over cotton from the swaddler for this.

Then I made a baby sling. It seemed simple but the seam is a bitch. Mine came out a little twekos but oh well. I used the cotton as a lining for the inside of the sling. It said to use outside decor fabric which seemed super rough to me. I went ahead a used brown duck cotton. Julian, my little cousin, is modeling the sling with his monster. LOL I love how my hammock is on the desk behind him. HA!

OH OH and I almost forgot the most important thing!! DUH the thing that started all the things. TUN TUN TUN...The shopping cart cover! McCalls M55721 which I got for .99 cents on sale! YES! I used batting, which some people do not. The only thing I used out of the pattern was the part for the cover. It had little pockets and a bag and bias tape. I bought the bias tape. I made the strap, which was a dumb idea because this weekend I saw that the sell the straps at walmart for like $2 ALREADY made!! IDIOT! The button holes were the hardest part. Apparently my machine had a button foot and I was determined to try it out. It took me 2 evenings of messing with it to finally figure it out. Other than that it was really easy. I added on 2 loops to hook toys on.

Back is plain brown cotton, don't mind the gator paw in the back! It's Julian's but I use it as a body pillow!

I plan on making a couple for my etsy and add who knows what else. My niche is going to be punk. Of course there are tons of people selling shopping cart covers but not many with skulls or anything hardcore. I found some bad ass skull material that no one else on etsy was using and I also couldn't resist on some cupcake material! Needless to say I spent a little over $40 on www.fabric.com which wasn't bad because I got 6 YERDS of designer fabric plus free shipping, plus $10 off. My real total was over $50. Round of applause. I will need to pick up batting, bias tape, straps, and a back color. I'll post up pics when I'm done.
